Morning dew collected on Gertrude Jekyll's new leaves. We are still at the stage in the garden where new leaves and growth are springing up but no flowers for at least a few weeks. Even without the flowers there are ways to find and see beauty. By the way, upon reaching maturing Gertrude's thorns are some of the most vicious I know of.
So perfect. Those dew drops! I'm seeing some red thornage in the photo. Careful....
ReplyDeleteThanks earlysnowdrop. I will be sure to be careful.
ReplyDeleteAt least it's too early for blackspot!
ReplyDeleteToo true! It is the worst offender for blackspot I grow, but as long as it continues to give me that big Spring show I will put up with it.
ReplyDeletehave been looking everywhere for a picture of the thorns of GJ...finally! thank you. We moved into our house 18 mos. ago and this rose was planted in a very sheltered spot, but very dry...had no idea if it would survive our serious winter but in spring it put up one very long and vigorous cane...no bloom. This Spring, 2012, the growth is more compact but it has 4 canes in blossom...the flowers are the same colour as the thorns!...that's what lead me to identify it as GJ...I'm thrilled as it has a lovely scent and is strong enough to survive here.
